Government response to enquiries concerning advice for teachers about trans pupils

I responded to a request from one of the other responsible trans-supporting groups to contact my MP about advice and guidance for teachers relating to trans pupils. My MP, Sarah Dyke, was elected recently at a by-election but found time to respond and seek information from Nick Gibb the Minister for Schools. His reply can be found here: Transgender Education Guidance for Schools Letter Response copy

As you might expect, it is bland and does not say much.

The bland nature of Nick Gibbs speaks volumes about current government policy in this area. They know that they have a responsibility towards trans children but they also know that their own “culture wars” policy limits their room for manoeuvre. The answer? Do nothing and leave it to individual schools. Then, if there’s a problem, it’s the fault of the school. It’s scandalous.
